DJ Sizzle Fantastic to Headline ¡Presente! Conference

DJ Sizzle Fantastic is a DJ and event curator, born en la Costa de Guerrero, MX and raised in Boyle Heights, CA. Dj Sizzle Fantastic holds residencies all throughout Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. You can find her on Instagram and Soundcloud to say up to date with her shows.

 

Founded by Dj Sizzle Fantastic and Normz la Oaxaqueña, Cumbiatón has rooted itself in the beautiful barrio of Boyle Heights, CA and has branched out to cities like San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. Cumbiaton’s vision in all 4 cities is to center womxn and queer people of color both on the dance floor and in the Dj booth. “We center our collective experiences to create events by us, for us. We do this because la Cumbia es Cultura.“

 

CUMBIATÓN IS AN INTERGENERATIONAL CULTURAL MOVEMENT WHICH UTILIZES MUSIC AS A VESSEL TO HEAL AND UPLIFT OPPRESSED HOOD COMMUNITIES.


The online and free 5th ¡Presente! Conference - Un Espacio For Our QT Community is hosted by UC Riverside on February 25-26, 2022. The ¡Presente! Conference is a queer college conference with a focus on people who identify as part of the Latin/South/Central American diaspora, including but not limited to  Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latinx, Brown, Latinx, Chicanx, and Indigenous people. People of all genders and sexualities are welcome to apply to attend Saturday’s events.

Bamby Salcedo, “Madrina de Honor," To Open Saturday's ¡Presente! Conference Events

Bamby Salcedo is a prominent and celebrated transgender Latina activist, known all over the world for her passionate and productive social, political, and economic influence. As the President and CEO of the TransLatin@ Coalition, Bamby steadily leads this nationally recognized organization that advocates for and addresses the issues of transgender Latinas throughout the United States. Bamby received her Master’s Degree in Mexican and Latin@ Studies from California State University, Los Angeles, and also developed the Center for Violence Prevention & Transgender Wellness, a multimillion, multipurpose, multiservice space for Trans people in Los Angeles.

Bamby’s wide-ranging activist work has brought visibility and given a voice to not only the trans community, but to countless others whose efforts focus on critical topics that include immigration, HIV, at-risk youth, LGBTQIA+ issues, incarceration, and more. Through her dynamic leadership, Bamby has developed several organizations that have created networks and connections where there were none, and she, to this day, tirelessly advocates for the rights, dignity, and humanity of those who are often silenced. Determined to affect change at every level, Bamby actively engages and supports many local, national, and international organizations and planning groups.

Thanks to her impassioned and impactful influence, Bamby has been invited several times by the White House to participate on a multitude of panels. In 2015, she proudly shared the stage with President Biden at the United States of Women Summit and later that same year she spoke at the Transgender Women of Color and Violence and LGBTQ People of Color Summit. In 2021, Bamby visited the White House again to speak as an invited guest and valued advocate on the issues of safety, inclusion, as well as opportunities for transgender individuals. Bamby was also invited to testify before Congress to speak on the Equal Rights Amendment with the ERA Coalition, for which Bamby serves as a board member. Bamby was humbly honored to participate in the hearing and always ensures that our elected officials learn firsthand how people are impacted by the policies and laws they create.

Bamby has spoken at every ¡Presente! Conference since its founding in 2017. The online and free 5th ¡Presente! Estefania Garcia Bautista to Open ¡Presente! Conference at Friday's Poesia Peligrosa

In collaboration with Teatro Quinto Sol, the 5th ¡Presente! Conference will open with Poesia Peligrosa, featuring Estefania Garcia Bautista as featured speaker and poet. This free event open to all also includes an Open Mic space, as well as local vendors. Estefania Garcia Bautista is a woman from Zapotec descent. She is an actress, poet, musician and visual creator. She holds a B.A in Theater, Film and Digital Production from the University of California, Riverside and has performed in L.A community theaters and in a variety of short films. Her poetry can be found in the "Latinx Poetry Project," published by Alegria Magazine. Her life work is dedicated to indigenous women empowerment, self-love and intergenerational spiritual healing. Currently, she is the founder of "Bendito EnglishySpanish," an English Learning school established in her native village in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Estefania Garcia Bautista es una Mujer de raíces Zapotecas. Es actriz, poeta, música, y creadora visual. Obtuvo su licenciatura de Teatro, Cinematografía y Producciones Digitales en la Universidad de Riverside, California. Se ha presentado en los teatros Californianos y participado en varios cortometrajes. Su poesía está incluida en "Latinx Play Projects" publicación de Alegria Magazine. Su trabajo de vida está dedicada al empoderamiento de las Mujeres Indígenas, al amor propio, y sanación espiritual intergeneracional. Actualmente, es fundadora de "Bendito EnglishySpanish," una escuela de Inglés establecido en su pueblo natal en Oaxaca, México.

TQS is an organization at UC Riverside that uses art, theater, poetry & other mediums as means of community, self expression, & social activism. Poesia Peligrosa in an intentional space where we center the narratives from our comunidades and we reclaim our voices through the art of performance! We also invite artists/vendors from our community to vend their art hecho a mano.
